Common modes / filters

Reliable and trouble-free operation of modern power facilities largely depends on the reliability of technological equipment that performs the functions of protecting electronic components, communications, automation systems, etc.

Modern electronics distinguishes the main methods for reducing the level of electromagnetic interference and solving problems of electromagnetic compatibility of technical means (EMC):

   • Application of screens as housings for electronic devices;

   • Shielding of individual units of equipment, protective braids;

   • Correct construction of electronic circuits to reduce parasitic parameters;

   • Application of noise suppression filters (PPF), filter assemblies, network filters and modules.

 

 
 

Typical Application: Suppression Filters

 

PC "MSTATOR" on the basis of a series of MSFN cores has developed a line of in-mode chokes (chokes for suppressing EMI) based on nanocrystalline material AMAG200C (based on a thin ribbon 18 ±2 microns).

Minimization or elimination of the influence of EMF sources at the design stage.

They provide a high level of interference suppression in a wide frequency range and are characterized by small overall dimensions and weight (a significant reduction in assembly volume up to 60% compared to chokes on a ferrite core).

  • The MSFN series cores have a typical magnetic permeability of 85,000 at a frequency of 10 kHz.
  • High permeability helps to reduce the number of turns of the windings, which in turn increases the resonant frequency and reduces the resistance of the wire.
  • Compared to ferrite, chokes provide greater attenuation over a wider frequency range and reduce winding losses.
  • At low frequencies, the high attenuation of the filter is provided due to high permeability, and at high frequencies, due to small parasitic capacitances and a high resonant frequency.
  • Unlike ferrite material AMAG200C has stable permeability in a wide temperature range from –60°С to +155°С. In the specified range, the change in permeability is no more than 15%, which ensures excellent filter performance in a wide variety of applications.

Medicine

In some applications, it is highly undesirable to have capacitors that block the isolation barrier, that is, have elements installed between the common busbars of the primary and secondary circuits. For example, medical equipment has stringent requirements to limit the leakage current that can be exceeded if there is a low impedance across the high frequency isolation barrier. In these cases it is necessary to use a dedicated common mode choke.

 

Data transmission channels

Common mode chokes are widely used in high speed serial data links, especially when the transmission medium is a cable that connects the two subsystems. These devices reduce electromagnetic interference from the cable while meeting the mandatory requirements.
